Learn To Do Brick Renovations Yourself

Just the other day when you have finally arrived at home, you noticed some of your pavement’s bricks have already chipped off. To make the matter worse, the overall appearance of your once beautiful brick patio seemed to have been devastated by a hurricane. First thing that will come to your mind is to have these fixed as soon as possible. But before calling a renovation company, there are a few things that you need to think about very carefully.

Many homeowners defer their plans of having renovations or repairs outside or inside their houses because they cannot shoulder the cost. If you are one of those homeowners who are trying to save some money, what would be the best option? Well, the most sensible answer would be to do things with your own hands.

The do-it-yourself mode of brick renovation can keep you from spending on things that you can actually do. Here are a few tips on how to get your brick renovation work done in no time.

Choosing the Right Bricks for your Renovation Plan

  • Bricks are available in a wide array of sizes, colors, styles, designs and materials. Before getting your hands dirty, make sure you have selected the ideal type of brick that you are going to use in your project.
  • If you opted for the thin brick, you can use this in several parts of your home. Dining room, kitchen, living room, fireplace—these are just a few places where you can install thin bricks to beautify your interior.
  • For the outdoor renovation, the thick brick is excellent. You may use it for your patio, garden walls, and other exposed outdoor spaces.

DIY Brick Installation

  • In installing the bricks, you need to gather the needed materials first.  Make sure to buy enough bricks for the whole renovation project.
  • Prepare a mortar, tools for the application of the mortar, a bonding material such as cement and of course, the bricks.
  • Clean the wall surface or other surface where you will be installing the bricks with water and soap. Once it is completely dry, you are good to start the project.
  • Apply some cement to the back of each brick and place it on the wall in any pattern that you want.
  • When the bricks have already set on the wall and are already dry, fill in the gaps between the bricks with a grout.
  • Wipe the excess grout and make sure that you have applied it evenly on the bricks.
  • Wait for a few hours until the grout is completely set.

While it is possible to do brick renovation on your own, if you are uncertain that you can do the job successfully then it would be best to seek the help of a professional.
